First up, this week's learning - is something we are yet to figure out - so let's call this the conundrum of this week.

For the newly arrived in France, an element of culture shock is the onset of DDD (Dairy Disorientation Disorder).

The rower of RO-HAN (mercantile club reference) did give us the heads up, but we are yet to crack the logic of dairy display and availability here.

When looking for milk, find first where the 'milk' is located. Usually a central aisle, which in itself is disorienting.

When you get there, you are confronted with a bewildering array of different milks, all on non-refrigerated shelves. Head spinning.

Then, stop spinning, and face the opposite direction, to a fridge, and there hidden amongst a dizzying array of hundreds different types of yoghurt, if you're lucky, are one or two normal, non-UHT, bottles of cows' milk with a normal fat content. The yoghurt, by the way, is all in 200ml tubs (nothing bigger) and almost all containing loads of sugar and fruit.

Want a 500ml tub of natural yogurt - nope.....

Ok, therapy over.

This week's highlight was a Friday afternoon drive to the coast, down to Frejus-Saint Raphael to rate its cycle friendliness (not high), and then hugging the Cote D'Azur, all the way to Cannes.

The weather was perfect, the cliff top views from Calanque de Maupas were stunning,

but it all got better down at the pebble beach

to be enjoyed slowly and contemplatively

Back in Fayence, a long ride on Saturday ride took us through some of our favourite farm vistas on the road to Mons....

...and then up high into the hills beyond Mons, including through a ski resort (Le Mouliere) with accompanying spectacular alpine -esque scenery

and finishing off this week with the image below

Noting:

  1. Engineers will get it

  2. It will not be as funny to you as it is to us

Best response goes to Stephen Law, who wondered how much Andre would charge (and refer points 1 & 2 above again). Extra point for technical pun accuracy.
