Wine......... & Song

It is wine grape picking season in Burgundy and the vineyards are scattered with minivans (with their seats, curiously, covered in garbage bags) and teams in the field harvesting by hand. Another year's vintage is in the making.

Wine seems to be the support and lifeblood of this region

In contrast to our observations in Provence 2 years ago, where the landscape was scattered with small farms and charming little villages that were looking a little the worse for wear and underinvestment and mostly deserted, in Burgundy there are large vineyards and the charming little villages are quite well maintained and only partly deserted.

Wine seems to have kept the area relatively wealthy while other areas, that relied on manufacturing or other industries, appear to not be propering as much.

However

Wine is a bit omnipresent here.

Going for a bike ride? Have a wine with that!

At the end of a big ride, feel like a beer and hamburger? No, have a wine and a hamburger.

Guilty.....

Roast chicken take away? - grab a wine with that...

Chinese tapas (didn't know that was a thing) & noodles accompanied by (tea, NO!) wine

Actually been to most of these, but this one is a cracker!

Song

After deciding that life is short and eveyone should see Nick Cave perform live at least once, we scoured his web site for Melbourne and then Aussi gigs, to no avail. Upon further reserach we found he was playing at a four day music festival in Paris two weeks after we arrived.

So, off to Paris by fast train for the weekend.

Whilst the weather was not kind, it gave the umbrellas a chance to dance along to Lykki Li

and the same night, a chance relive last year's choir number from Lorde

and the following night see Nick Cave perform the last concern on his five-month tour.

Both night were amazing, but I learned that nowhere in the venn diagram containing early work starts, concerts until after midnight and wine sold in 1 litre jugs is there a happy place where all three circles intersect.

So, perhaps changing back a gear and taking it a little easier is a good plan.

We are here for a good time, not a long time, so better to spend my time cycling with wine & song.

Cheers
