Dijon reflections

A late update. We left Dijon last Saturday and have been active.
Reflecting on our time and on Dijon itself after 4 weeks, Jacquie summed up my feelings about Dijon well in observing it is like there is a place that has all the good bits of Paris (charm, history, culture, architecture, food, wine...) without the bad bits (crowds, overworked and jaded hospitality staff and ALL THOSE TOURISTS).
A small-ish city of about 160,000 in population with a long history of commerce and agriculture that seems to have supported continued investment in the city, its culture and its character, it presents wonderful food:


Stunning and charming architecture


Is surrounded by charming villages


Endless vineyards

and, with a really well developed and interconnected system of bike paths and cycle ways, is a city built for cycling through and out of...




Our daily rhythm of early starts for work then cheese into a baguette and cycle off for somewhere to sit for lunch:

has been well practiced.
On Saturday we experienced one of those unhappy Venn diagram confluences where the need for an early departure and check out (for our 1,100 km drive) intersected with a passive agressive but unhelpful Airbnb host. No matter...
Off to Italy for a week, where food is great, coffee is really great and road rules are treated as suggestions to be broadly ignored, to celebrate a friend's birthday.
